WELCOME TO THE HOME OF LOVE DOG TRAINING
Training and behaviour for pets and people
There are so many factors which contribute to behaviour, not just nurture! So basically you can have a dog born ‘bad’ and you can make a good dog bad. They are also made of flesh and bone, same as us and such can be affected by disease, stress, bad diet, inappropriate handling and training, mutant genes and aging, which affects how they behave and relate to the world around them along with past experiences or trauma.
If you are living with a pet with behaviour problems, we need to establish WHY they are doing what they are doing. This means getting a vet referral or medical rule out first. Then we need to fix it where possible to do so. Your dog may be guarding his bed, barking all day, or suffering with separation anxiety, being aggressive to dogs or people, your cat may be having litter box problems, scratching your furniture or your horse may be difficult to load into his trailer.
Once you've had your consultation, a behaviour modification plan, vet report and any supporting material are emailed to you, along with guidance on implementing the advice within. Katie's hours of work for pet behaviour consults are between 10am and 4pm Monday - Friday depending upon your location, mileage past 5 miles of Yate is charged at 45p per mile plus expenses where applicable and will be invoiced separately. Katie can implement payment plans if needed and takes cards via PayPal, consult fees include email support for as long as you need.
As a Certified Behaviour Consultant, Katie offers optional tiered support packages once you've had your initial consultation. These can be discussed during your consult and are unique to Katie. You may also benefit from the reactive dog classes run in conjunction with Rosie from Pet Sense, a clinical behaviourist based in Bristol. These are unique to us and only for clients we have worked with to ensure safety and suitability.
Vet referral forms can be downloaded here, many vets will email your pets medical history to Katie on request.
Katie, your consultant will perform a consultation in your home, where she will discuss the issue with you and listen to your concerns, assess the behaviour then build a plan to fix the problem and tell you what to expect with implementation. Consults tend to be 90 -120 minutes in duration.

We have a variety of puppy classes and venues in the area, with a new venue coming soon. Our puppy training and socialisation courses are usually 4 weeks long, perfect for busy families. Katie and her assistants run the classes under the Love Dog Training philosophy, training skills for life! In class, we focus on building core skills such as effective marker training, attention on the handler, recall from distractions, impulse control and tolerance of frustration, cooperative handling and grooming, basic obedience and safe interactions. Many owners plan ahead and book courses before bringing pups home from the breeders, we recommend booking as early as possible to avoid not getting a place as numbers are limited and they tend to sell quickly. Need extra help at home with pup? Book here!
There are 2 types of puppy class currently: Puppy 1 and Puppy 2.
Puppy 1 courses are for puppies under 18 weeks at the beginning of the course, 1st vaccines administered and been in the home 7 days before classes start. Focusing on building core life skills such as effective marker training, attention on the handler, recall from distractions, impulse control such as bite inhibition and preventative techniques, cooperative handling and grooming, basic obedience and safe interactions.
Puppy 2 courses are for puppies who have completed Puppy 1 or similar elsewhere and are looking to expand training obedience skills like stay, emergency stop and free shaped retrieve, and improve impulse control under distraction such as stopping jumping up and counter surfing - the kind of stuff older pups get up to during their risk taking adolescent stage!

The awards place an emphasis on kind, fair effective training teaching the curriculum set by APDT,UK (Association of Pet Dog Trainers, UK) using obedience and self control to gain the certification. The exercises are designed to test your skills as a dog owner and are best suited to those who have already attended one of our puppy classes or similar as some basic obedience will be required to make the most from the workshop. Due to the size of the venue, the workshop won't suit dogs who over react in the presence of dogs.
We usually hold these courses at Downend Folk House, Bristol as one off fast track workshops on a Sunday. We often get hired to run these as private workshops for groups and organisations such as West Country Bullie Walks.
Next course: Sunday 23rd April, Downend Folk House, Downend, Bristol BS16 2RW 10.30am - 1.30pm

If you can't attend classes or want somthing a bit more specifically tailored to your needs*, let us help you achieve what you want with your dog or any other pet. This is NOT suitable for behaviour problems, ones that are emotionally based, such as aggression or separation complexes. It is ideal though, for coaching cooperative grooming and husbandry to make your vet and grooming trips easier, safer and ultimately, cheaper! Or to teach your dog or pet a specific task or tricks or some basic obedience such as sit, stay, recall, how to stop counter surfing, how to stop jumping up or pulling. We can even teach you our course curriculums privately or provide day training (we train the dog for you, very popular in the USA)!
The fee is £35 per hour, includes the training and any supporting material but doesn't include written plans (these can be purchased for a small additional fee), mileage outside 5 miles of Yate is charged at 45p per mile plus any expenses if applicable. Please note, Katie is available between 10am and 4pm Monday - Friday, depending upon your location and the days required.

We believe that everyone deserves the chance to have a stress free and easy lives with their dog and other family pets. Life can be so busy, often training your dog is the last thing you want to do when you get home, but that is exactly why we created Love Dog Training - because we love training dogs, have passion for animal behaviour and we love teaching owners how to raise a well behaved dog they can be proud of. Established in 2005, that's oodles of experience, knowledge and skills yet still more to learn! As a certified behaviour consultant, Katie fully understands the needs of your dog and their welfare.
Our classes, workshops and other unique events help give you the tools to set yourself up to succeed or we can be hired to do all the hard work for you. We treat each person and situation as individuals, some dogs will need more work with obedience, life skills and impulse control, others will need more focus on their emotional state...We firmly believe that communication between the species is not only possible but an essential part of pet ownership, our job is to connect the dots between man and man's best friends!
Katie lives with her 13 year old Miniature Bull Terrier, Koda who is now retired from helping dogs overcome social issues. He's going blind, deaf and has arthiritis but so will Katie at his age! His favourite thing is his flirt pole, a toy that he can chase and catch, and his puppy gym for keeping up his core strength and muscle tone. And belching.
Lego the semi long haired cat also resides at the Scott-Dyer home; he is 14 years old, ex-Bristol Dogs and Cats Home resident and has recently started some clicker training with Katie and likes to go on walks with Kirsty and Ren.
And finally, Ren, the infamous rescue Staffy X who was adopted by Kirsty from Holly Hedge Animal Santuary a year ago...she is a tour de force and was named after the Star Wars character, Kylo Ren. If you ever meet her, you'll get an enthusiastic greeting! She has probably taught Katie more in the year since living at the family home than all the other dogs Katie has lived and worked with, like ever!
